Georgia Outlasts Auburn 20–10 in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry

Georgia Bulldogs dominated Auburn again with a tough win of 20-10 in the most recent installment of the Oldest Rivalry in the Deep South. The game, which was played in front of a full stadium on Saturday, provided drama, controversy, and the sort of grit that characterizes SEC football.

Auburn began well, with assured drives and good defense. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs were resilient again when they adapted in the second half. A defense that was dominated by a ferocious front seven allowed Georgia to only give up 50 total yards to Auburn in the second half, disabling their passing game and compelling them to turn the ball over. Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold seemed to score on a goal line formation that would have been a momentum-shifting touchdown, but was called a fumble, which put Georgia in possession--a decision that led to a controversial discussion on social media and sports networks.

Georgia, which was initially slow on third downs, was revived in the fourth quarter. The performance of the quarterback was better and the Bulldogs turned four out of six third-downs on a decisive, time-consuming drive that won the game. Auburn, in the meantime, was brought down by 11 penalties to 103 yards, which were expensive errors that halted the drives and held Georgia in possession at the end.

The victory is the ninth consecutive one of Georgia over Auburn, which is the same as the longest streak in the history of the rivalry. The Bulldogs are still in the playoff fray and Auburn is left to lick its wounds after another narrow loss.
